Notes R5 Client Crashes Spell Checking Document with Consecutive Underscores

Technote Number: 1099492

Problem:
This issue was reported to Lotus Quality Engineering and no longer occurs in
Notes 5.0.8 and Notes 6.0.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 5.0.8 MR fix list (available at
http://www.notes.net):

Editor - Spelling
SPR# RCFE4HHVXB - Spell checker crashes the Notes client when set to "auto" and
the message contains multiple underscore characters.

Supporting Information:

The crash can also occur when the consecutive underscore characters are
contained in the USER.DIC file. These characters can be added to the USER.DIC
file when you use a prior release of Notes to spell check a document with
multiple underscores, and then select Add instead of Skip. Renaming the
USER.DIC file corrects the problem.
